CAMPSITE # 149 - Newell Beach Tourist Park

Tom "Hanks" Simpson. But where is Wilson??? Wiiiiiiilson....

Finding a powered caravan park right on the beach turned out to be a much harder exercise than we had initially anticipated considering our location. After we spent the morning topping up supplies in Cairns, we followed the beach north in search of somewhere to stay.

We made a quick pit stop into Port Douglas and quickly realised that the upmarket cafes and coastal shopping precinct meant the caravan parks were overpriced and unimpressive. We kept on driving until we found..

Site : Newell Beach Caravan Park
Rating : 9 / 20
Facilities : Someone's backyard converted into a very small caravan park. Swimming pool, free BBQs, good undercover camp kitchen area, very small sites, across the road from the beach, $31 per night powered.

Persistence finally prevailed...

And again...

And again...

Even I was in luck...

What a surprise, Tom Hanks caught one too...

Newell Beach was quite spectacular. Tom and I found our dream home, a very tasteful modern surf-shack-esq beachfront home with a large undercover timber deck and built in BBQ, lovely manicured lawns and an infinity swimming pool with the water cascading over a sandstone wall. Oh and of course, the hammock would be strung up beneath two coconut palms overlooking our backyard - the ocean.

Oh and a giant games room & holiday house for James of course....
