CAMPSITE # 145 - Burketown HELL!!!

I can feel my own skin crawl when I’m reminded of our time at Burketown.

It’s not the town’s fault, it’s the combination of driving of a very long and bumpy gravel road for 5 hours and arriving into hell. All we wanted was a few days of rest and some peace & quiet. We wanted a little break from driving, somewhere to call home for two nights and just relax.
I thought it was strange that we were the only people camped in our section, considering how busy the rest of the park was. It wasn’t the park itself that we hated as it was a relatively neat & tidy place. It was our neighbours. Our tent shared a fence line with a community housing residence that, from the bellows and screams of each child, I would have guessed housed at least 6 children all under the age of 5.

All night, the screams and cries just did not stop. Just as one child was a approaching the completion of its tantrum, another would quickly follow suit. Usually, I would have sympathy towards the parents but on this night, it was safe to say that the parents either

a)      Were tone deaf
b)      Weren’t home or
c)       Were comatose

We were in hell. Tom and I woke the next day in pain as we could feel the veins at the back of our eyeballs pulsating to the beat of a heavy metal band. James, the healthy young and fit superhuman, somehow managed to sleep thru the entire performance and couldn’t seem to understand what the big deal was the next morning. Did I mention we were in hell? We had to get out!! Another few hours of bumpy headachy driving would be nothing in comparison.

Site : Burketown Caravan Park
Rating : 1 / 20
Facilities : EMOTIONAL SWING 2 points from Tom, James and I each deducted. Urgh!!! P.S. The bathrooms were spotlessly clean.
