CAMPSITE # 40 - New Years Eve written by Christian Moebius

I have the honourable task, correction the honour, to act as guest blogger for camp site 40... NEW YEARS EVE. We woke up in Elephant Backpackers hostel in Melbourne. Matt D, his mate Dan, Tom & Amy, Binko, Amy T and myself. Dan and Matt were off at 9 to get to the airport, they were going to Sydney for NYE. Rest of us finished waking up, Tom and Binks went to get Binkos car while the Amy’s and I got to enjoy a Starbucks coffee. Pretty soon Binks and Tom were back, and we were off with the Charlie the Troopie, southwest bound off to new adventures. The destination was a farm close to Geringhap by Geelong. We stopped over in Geelong to make some time as well as procurements for NYE which was to be celebrated on the farm and then spent the day in Torquay under a boiling hot 42 degrees. After a dip in the ocean, we timed it took just 1 minute and 15 seconds until our ocean wet hair was absolutely dry.

We figured it wasn't quite appropriate of us to turn up to the NYE party all hot and bothered from our stinking hot day. So, in true Charlie the Troopie style, we pulled up at a Baseball Stadium and helped ourselves to their tap. Tom connected the hose & shower onto the tap and we were away. Clean and dry within 30 seconds. The girls then held us up for another 15minutes while they spent their time painting their faces.

The 31st of December was rising to my expectations of finding a warm Australian summer upon my arrival. It was awful. Awfully hot that is of course. Now, got to finish this blog. Not too chuffed with my performance, I don't think I’m quite rising to the expectations- domestic AND foreign that is. New years eve was pleasantly warm and after sorting out the 3 W’s ( where do I sleep, where do I eat and where’s the bog) the jolly joint was on. Had a crack with the caipirinhas, they performed alright. Myself I was off at 1:30 in the morning. The great host dropped the real bomb after the party: It came in a monetary disguise amounting to 50 bucks each. After paying we were off, some of the gratitude was too.
