There was only one thing that would help us all forget the shear misery of Burketown. We were determined to keep on driving until we found it. We needed to find... paradise. Paradise would solve everything.
For the entirety of our 3 hour journey to the coastal town of Karumba, we were busy dreaming of a shady campsite nestled amongst happy holidaying people. In our paradise, there would be palm trees swaying in the sea breeze, the laughter of children frolicking in the crystal clear swimming pool and the rejuvenating smell of the sea right at the end of our noses. In our paradise, there would be no such thing as screaming children.
To this day, I’m still in disbelief that we actually found exactly that... Paradise! Karumba was everything we needed. We checked ourselves in for three days and prepared ourselves to holiday in our tropical paradise.
We hired a 14ft tinnie for the day and set off in search for some fishies. No fishies to speak of but the three of us had a very fun day on the water... quite a treat!
Skipper James, navigating his vessel...
On our last night, we took a stroll down to the Sunset Tavern for a few afternoon drinkies as the sun set over the ocean.
Should we be concerned? Jim is quite fond of Bundy products, first it's the Ginger Beer, now it's the Sarsaparilla... what next? ;)
Paparazzi shot...
Meet Krys, the Savannah King. This is an accurate artists impression of the largest saltwater crocodile captured in the world. He was measured at 28ft 4inches or 8.63 metres!!! He was killed by a female crocodile shooter in 1957 just downstream from the town of Normanton, 70kms away from Karumba. It's estimated that the prehistoric beast would have weighed in excess of 2 tonnes!!
