CAMPSITE # 78 - King Solomon

We took a stroll down to the beach in the late afternoon to witness the sun setting over a beautifully clear blue sky and ocean. I had seen the sun set over the ocean just once, in Tassie and that was cheating as there were technically mountains in the way. This time... it was just incredible. But the sunset got pushed aside to what we found even more amazing.. our encounter with Solomon the Fur Seal (I just had to name him).
Solomon spent the entire sunny day lying on a rock (now that's my type of seal!!) and then, as the sun began to set... Solomon got a little more playful. We stood there just 15 metres away from Solomon for a good half hour, just watching his every move. He looked like such a proud, content mammal. But he certainly was a cautious one at that... he certainly told us who was boss when we tried to get a little too close for comfort.

And of course, we couldn't bypass the sunset... it was simply breathtaking. My favourite part about watching the sun set is when the sun just disappears out of sight and you just see these flashes of red and orange transcend across the sky. Just magical.

I suppose I should go in to where we were and how we came across such a great beach spot. Well, it was at ...
Site : The Granites, SA
Rating : 10 / 20
Facilities : Zero facilities. Wide open car park where you can camp wherever you like. Not the best camping area but it's literally a hop, skip & jump to the beach... or if you're not in the mood to hop, skip or jump... in SA you can drive on the beach pretty much anywhere... fantastico!

Three nights in a row of free camping, we should do this more often... except the whole ZERO facilities thing would really take its toll after a while. We settled in nicely, erected the awning & fly screen. I was already getting fed up with the flies inside the screen... but I better get used to it cause it's only going to get worse!

Tommy Boy put his mechanics hat on, he noticed that the accelerator cable had torn quite a bit, to a point where we were hanging on the last thread. He got out his new cable & his Haynes Guide and set about successfully fixing it himself. He's turning out to be quite the mechanic... well at least, when I put the foot down it goes somewhere so surely he did something right?

The one underneath is the old one... eeek!

We're off to pay my Uncle Pete & his family a visit in Adelaide next week, who just so happens to be a mechanic... no doubt those two will get under the hood and have a little play. I can guarantee Tom will be in his element... lucky Charlie ;)
